About Us

Shinfield Vets is a clean, calm, professional and quality clinic.  We are independent being family owned and operated and have been caring for pets in this area for over 40 years.

Why choose Shinfield Vets to provide care for your pet?

Choosing the right practice for you and your pet is a big decision.  We know that there are a number of choices of Veterinary Practices in Reading but we believe that Shinfield Vets is different.  We always aspire to be the best Veterinary Practice in Reading, though not necessarily the biggest.

Providing the very best care to our patients is at the heart of everything that we do.  Each patient receives a bespoke service, receiving treatment that meets their individual needs.

We believe that the calibre of our Veterinary Surgeons and Nurses, our spirit of teamwork and our dedication to quality care make our clinic very special.

What makes us different
We are a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Accredited Practice

The RCVS is our professions regulatory body.  For a client, using a practice that is part of the scheme should give you peace of mind about the quality of care that your pet is receiving.  To gain our accreditation on the scheme, the practice has passed a rigorous inspection on very important areas such as hygiene, staff training, equipment levels and more.  It is important to note that membership of the scheme is voluntary and not every practice is a member of the scheme.  As an accredited practice, we are inspected by the RCVS every 4 years and are also subject to spot checks.

Here when you need us; 7 days a week and Bank Holidays for you and your pet

We respect the bond of trust that we have with our clients, and don’t want to let you down by being closed when you need us most.  That is why we are open every day of the week.  If we are closed, you will have access to our 24-hour emergency cover.

Our appointments are at least 15 minutes long

This is 50 % longer than the average vet appointment in the UK.  We are all pet owners and understand how worrying it is when your pet is ill. That is why we feel it important to provide sufficient time to examine the patient and have a full discussion with you regarding all the treatment options available.

Our team work to the highest standards

We just will not compromise the standard of care that we provide. We select all the products that we use, from vaccines to suture materials, to ensure the best outcome for your pet.  We simply will not compromise on the quality of the products we use or cut our staffing levels just so we can offer seemingly cheaper prices.

A positive and proactive approach to patient wellbeing

We feel fortunate to have a team of such highly qualified and enthusiastic people.  All of the team regularly partake in further professional education so that we can offer your pet the most up to date treatments and best levels of care.  Our vets and nurses are not just highly qualified but also deeply caring people.  All our in-patients receive regular personal interaction and are monitored closely to be kept free from pain.  We know that the nursing and nurturing we give our in-patients is just as important to their recovery as the medicines they are receiving.  High staffing levels means that we always have time for our patients from the important jobs like taking the time to gently coax an in-patient to eat to just giving a bit of fuss and attention when needed.

We are Independent

We are very proud to not be part of a corporate chain. The health of our patients is what leads all the decisions we make, not producing profits for shareholders. We are committed to continually investing in the development of the surgery’s equipment, facilities and staff.
